CST Loves Disc Golf

Saying they are passionate about disc golf just can’t describe the love that Ryan and Russ have for their favorite sport. Ryan and Russ love to compete against each other and hold bragging rights until the next face off!

Disk golf is better exercise than regular golf – the course is not flat like a golf course you have to climb and hike between holes. Each disk course is different in terrain, scenery and skill level.

Here are some of the favorite Disk Golf Courses in Three Rivers Park District:

Bryant Lake Regional Park – 18 hole course has short and long tee boxes, scenic lake views and infamous hole #17 where golfers throw their disk off a cliff to reach the basket.

Elm Creek Park Reserve – 18 hole course that follows the sledding hill and terrain portion of the park. The course features 2 par 4s, multiple signature holes and other champion caliber holes.

Hyland Lake Park Reserve – 18 hole disk tournament course at Hyland ski area has one of the best views in the twin cities. Climb up steep elevations and descend for a fun and challenging course.

Meet the Team: Natalie Lande

My name is Ryan Zakariasen and my family owns the Commercial Steam Team carpet cleaners in the Twin Cities area of Minnesota.  I feel the best way to get to know our company is to get to know our “team”.

Natalie Lande is our office administrator.  She helps to ensure that the daily operations of our company run smoothly and our customers are pleased.  Natalie lives in Bloomington, Minnesota, by way of Northfield, Minnesota.  During her free time she enjoys running, sports, watching movies, writing, and spending time with family and friends.

I thought I would ask Natalie a few questions to help you get to know her better:

Q.  How did you get into the carpet cleaning industry?

A.  I had never worked in the carpet cleaning industry before, so it was all very new for me.  Luckily for me, I learned from the best!

Q.  What do you like about the carpet cleaning industry?

A.  I like the carpet cleaning industry because it is a service that everyone needs and uses, so it challenges us to have the highest quality and professionalism to be the best in a large and growing industry.

Q.  Why office administrator?

A.  I love being an office administrator because I get to witness all of the positive feedback we receive.  My coworkers and I are all working towards the same goal of the best service we can provide.

Q.  What was most important to you when starting with Commercial Steam Team?

A.  It was most important to me to uphold the great values that this company is known for.  Providing great customer service is always my top priority.

Q.  What is it like working with a family?

A.  Working with a family is one of the biggest privileges an employee can have.  The Zakariasens provide a pleasant and friendly working environment which makes every day more enjoyable.

I am so happy to have had the opportunity to introduce you to Natalie.  As one of her employers and co-workers, I can testify that she has been an amazing addition to our team.  She excels at keeping us organized, on track, and gives us the ability to do our jobs to the best of our abilities.  Her cheery personality also brightens up the office in a way that only she can.  I know I speak for everyone when I say that Natalie has been an important and integral addition to our Commercial Steam Team family!

Meet The Team: Russ Jr.

Russ Zakariasen Jr. –  President

Carpet cleaning can be frustrating, but it can also be the easiest thing in the world.  Getting to know who you will be working with can help ease the stress of deciding who to choose for your carpet cleaning needs.  Who better to get to know than the president of the company?

Russell Hamline Zakariasen III, or Russ Jr. as we call him, was born in Quincy Callifornia and raised in Burnsville Minnesota.  Athletic by nature he was the captain of the golf team for the Burnsville Braves, later changed to the Burnsville Blaze.  He attended business school at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis.  Now of course he is president of Commercial Steam Team working with his dad and brother.

Russ Jr. can often be spotted at Kaposia Park in South St. Paul playing disc golf with his brother Ryan or at Northfield Golf Club playing golf with his Dad.  His greatest passion has been coaching his sons basketball and football teams in the Rosemount Athletic club.

I sat down with Russ Jr. and asked him a little Q&A to help you get to know him better.

Q.  How did you get into the professional carpet cleaning industry?

A.  Like most kids I needed a summer job in High School.  I started telemarketing for a carpet cleaning company in Bloomington Minnesota.  I worked at that company through my last two years at Burnsville High School and through my four years at the University of Minnesota.

Q.  What do you like about the carpet cleaning industry?

A.  I love the daily interaction with our customers.  We have built such a loyal customer base over the years with wonderful people. They really show appreciation for the way we do business.  That positive reinforcement means a lot.

Q.  What was most important to you when starting this company?

A.  We wanted to create an environment where we found nothing but the very best employees, then treated them with appreciation, respect, and paid them well, so they would stay with our company long term, and treat our customers the way we need them to.  This really worked well!!

Q.  What is it like working with your family?

A.  I truly enjoy working with my family, working toward a common goal together.  We also are so lucky to have employees who feel like a part of our extended family.

Meet The Team: Carol Swanson

Carpet cleaning is important to you.  How can you properly inform yourself on a carpet cleaning company without seeing for yourself who works there.  Today we will focus on Carol Swanson.  Carol, a Bloomington native, is the Mothering member of Commercial Steam Team here in Burnsville Minnesota.  At 79 years old, Carol dotes on the rest of us like we were her own children and we couldn’t be luckier.  Carol is the first to arrive in the mornings and already has the coffee brewing.  She waters the plants that grow in the window, vacuums and straightens up (not her responsibility).  And when asked how she is doing today, her response is always the same “Oh, mean and ornery.  Perfectly normal.”  Quoting her father, she is kidding of course.  You wouldn’t meet a sweeter heart if you visited Willy Wonka’s Chocolate Factory.

We are not the only family Carol takes care of.  Her family is very important to her and she is never short on helping hands when it comes to their well-being.

Q&A is a great way to find out a little more about our team as well.

Q. How did you get into the carpet cleaning industry?

A. I was laid off from the “big” carpet cleaning company in the area and had worked with the Zakariasens before and saw that they had started their own company.  I contacted Russ Jr. and he came to see me and offered me a position.

Q. What do you like about the carpet cleaning industry?

A. I love talking to people on the phone.  I also like how clean a place looks after it’s cleaned and how that makes people feel.

Q. Why phone representative?

A. Because I’m good at it and I like talking to people.

Q. What was most important to you when starting with this company?

A. Fair pay. To make a living and be able to support myself.

Q. What is it like working with a family?

A. I think it’s just great.  I feel like I’m a part of it.

No surprise to us, Carol has proven to be the heart and soul of the Commercial Steam Team.  Not only for her warm wonderful spirit, but as an asset to the growth of this family business.  I speak for all of the Commercial Steam Team when I say that Carol Swanson is a member of our family.

40 Years of Marriage

Russell Hamline Zakariasen ll, or as we call him Russ Sr. and his wife Lynda, formerly Lynda Lee, have been married for 40 years as of January 16, 2011.  I could not be more proud of my business partner and father (for hanging onto a catch like my mother).  And I couldn’t be more proud of my mom (for hanging in there)  Just kidding, they have done what each of us hope to do in our lives and that is live them to the fullest and share it with those we love.  Both born and raised in Hopkins Minnesota.  As an elementary school teacher my mother, Lynda, has achieved her Masters degree and influenced not only the lives of her own children but also those of hundreds of children in her classes in Burnsville Minnesota as well.  Dad has been an adventurous soul from building Cedar Hills Golf and Ski club with his father in Eden Prarie Minnesota, to gold mining in Quincy California, then came home to opening one of the first quit smoking clinics in the country right here in Edina Minnesota.  He finally found his place in the world by teaming up with his two sons Ryan and Russ Jr. in the carpet cleaning industry.  Together, with the unimaginable patience and faith of Mom, the three of them started the Commercial Steam Team and have enjoyed every moment of this rollercoaster ride.

Congratulations Mom and Dad for 40 years that I couldn’t begin to describe in a short blog post.  May you have another 40 years even greater than the last.

Meet The Team: Russ Sr.

Hiring a carpet cleaning company is a big decision.  The right company makes your life easier and the wrong company makes your life temporarily revolve around something or someone who shouldn’t be the center of your universe.  Here at Commercial Steam Team we want you to know who you will be working with.  Today we focus on Russ Sr.  He is one of the owners and does the carpet and upholstery estimates for commercial clients.

In addition to my business partner Russ Sr. is also my father.  Raised in Hopkins Mn, he married a beautiful Hopkins native and elementary school teacher named “Mom”. Lol. j/k.  Her name was Lynda Lee, now Lynda Zakariasen for the past 40 years.

Dad has had a varied work life since he was a child.  He has done everything from ski instructor to gold miner, landscaper to stock broker.  He has finally sat still in Burnsville MN for the last 13 years working with his two sons, Ryan and Russ, and his daughter-in-law, Angie.

Russ has a passion for the sport of Golf and has won many tournaments and club championships.  Belonging to Northfield Golf Club, “Zak”, as he’s known at the club, has found the friendships and competition that he has always been looking for.  I can say from watching my father that he has never been happier than he is now.  Having found places that he truly belongs in both his social and work life he is bursting with joy.

Here’s a little Q&A to get to know him better.

Q. Why did you get into the carpet cleaning industry?

A. My two sons were working in the industry and I thought what greater dream could a proud papa have then to work side by side with my children.

Q. What do you like about the carpet cleaning industry?

A. I like that I can see the results on each job when we are done.  There aren’t a lot of industries that have such tangible results.

Q. Why commercial estimating?

A. I do all the estimates because that is the best opportunity to meet and get to know every customer.

Q. What was most important to you when starting Commercial Steam Team?

A. That we treat every customer and every employee with respect and honesty.

Q. What is it like working with your family?

A. It is by far the best work experience I have ever had.

In a side note, Dad would pay our employees out of his own mortgage when we didn’t even have enough money to pay ourselves.  This is one of the reasons that I am so proud to be both his son and his business partner.  I would hope every client see him for who he is, one of the “good guys”.
